Keyworker housing at St Peter's Hospital

At St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey, Surrey, BREE Construction delivered 147 homes for NHS staff, a 33.1 million pound development built for Southern Housing, the landlord formerly known as Optivo before its 2023 merger. BREE Construction (South) Ltd built the scheme across the Greenlands and Silverlands plots on the hospital site.

The development was created specifically as keyworker accommodation, providing apartments for nurses, doctors and other staff at Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. From the first bricks being laid to completion, the project was tracked closely as a flagship example of housing built to support frontline health workers.

Two plots, one completed community

Phase one at Greenlands delivered the first 75 of the 147 apartments, with the Silverlands plot completing the scheme. Together the two plots form a single development that meets a long-standing need for affordable, close-to-work housing on the St Peter's Hospital estate.

Construction was tracked from the brick-laying milestone through to handover, with the trust, the landlord and BREE updating on progress across the Greenlands and Silverlands plots. Building keyworker homes on a working hospital site called for careful sequencing around live clinical operations and the existing accommodation estate, which already provides several hundred units for staff.

Southern Housing confirmed completion of the full scheme, marking the delivery of 147 homes for NHS staff in Chertsey. For the trust and its workforce, the development eases pressure on local housing and helps the hospital attract and retain the staff it depends on.

Housing that supports the local NHS

By providing 147 homes close to the wards and departments where staff work, the development directly supports recruitment and retention at Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Affordable, close-to-work accommodation is a long-standing pressure for hospital workforces across the South East, and the scheme helps to ease it on the St Peter's estate.

Brought forward originally by Optivo and completed under Southern Housing following the 2023 merger, the Greenlands and Silverlands plots together form a single, completed keyworker community for the trust's staff.
