Supported accommodation for the Black Country
Between 2013 and 2015, BREE Construction, then operating as Bullock Construction, delivered Saltbrook Place for Midland Heart, a 58-unit supported accommodation scheme in Lye, in the West Midlands. The 5.7 million pound development provided homes for vulnerable adults and people who had experienced homelessness, giving them a place to call their own.
The scheme combined 24 en-suite rooms with 34 one-bedroom apartments, offering a graduated mix of accommodation to suit residents at different stages of independence. As the principal supported accommodation of its kind in the Dudley area, Saltbrook Place plays an important role in the borough's provision for people who need housing with support.
A purpose-built scheme
When Saltbrook Place opened, it gave vulnerable adults and homeless people in the Black Country a secure base from which to rebuild their lives. The apartment block was furnished and fitted out for supported living, with specialist subcontractors installing security and electronic systems suited to the building's role.
Delivered for Midland Heart, the scheme reflects the contractor's experience in supported and specialist housing during that period. Saltbrook Place continues to operate as a key supported accommodation resource in Dudley, providing both shelter and the structured support that helps residents move towards greater independence.
The opening of the building was reported as a significant moment for the Black Country, giving people a place to call their own at a cost of around 5.7 million pounds. Saltbrook Place remains central to the borough's response to homelessness and to the needs of vulnerable adults.
