Continuing The Acorns at Spennymoor
At Spennymoor in County Durham, BREE Construction, then operating as Partner Construction, secured the second phase of the Hartwall scheme, known as The Acorns, working with Tarras Park Properties. The Acorns is a residential development of around 70 homes, and the second phase continues delivery on a site with a long and complex history.
The scheme has roots stretching back to before the collapse of Carillion, with the contractor continuing on site as delivery passed to new ownership. Buccleuch Property and the Impec Group acquired The Acorns and brought it forward through their Maple Oak Homes joint venture, with Tarras Park Properties, part of the Buccleuch Estates, among the parties associated with the wider scheme.
A scheme with continuity
Construction on the second phase follows the earlier delivery at The Acorns, with the development microsite documenting progress through its phases. The continuity of the contractor across changes of ownership underlines the stability brought to a site that had once faced uncertainty.
Maple Oak Homes launched the second phase with an open weekend, marking the next stage of homes coming forward at Spennymoor. As the scheme progresses, it adds further high-quality housing to the town, building on the foundations laid in the first phase and reflecting a sustained programme of delivery in the North East. The wider development at The Acorns was supported by partners on both the developer and contractor sides, and securing the second phase reflects the contractor's established position on a site it has helped shape across successive owners and phases.
