Older persons' living in Parson Cross
Within the Parson Cross area of Sheffield, BREE Construction delivered Adlington Road for Sheffield City Council, a 20 million pound affordable housing scheme. Now known as Buchanan Green, the development provides 140 homes designed for older and supported residents, forming part of the council's wider master plan for Parson Cross.
BREE was appointed to construct a pair of affordable housing developments in Sheffield, reflecting the council's wider investment in specialist and affordable homes. Adlington Road delivered 122 older persons' independent living apartments together with bungalows for residents with learning disabilities, all for social rent, expanding the council's specialist housing offer in a part of the city earmarked for regeneration.
Homes designed for independent living
Designed by Keenan and Sanders Architects, Buchanan Green provides apartments for residents aged over 60 alongside accessible bungalows, with on-site amenities supporting independent retirement living. The scheme was procured by the council specifically to broaden its provision for older people and those needing additional support.
Roof works and full internal joinery across the apartments and bungalows were delivered by West End Joiners, supporting a consistent standard of finish throughout the development. The careful detailing reflects the needs of the residents the scheme was designed to serve. The combination of independent living apartments and accessible bungalows allows residents to live independently while remaining part of a supported community within Parson Cross.
Completion
Work ran from 2020 to 2022, with the retirement living scheme due to open in spring 2022.
Now complete, the development provides a welcoming environment for older Sheffield residents and those needing additional support, contributing to the council's affordable and specialist housing programme in Parson Cross.
