New council homes for Holbeck
Holbeck Living brought new council homes to the Holbeck area of Leeds, a 12 million pound affordable housing programme that BREE Construction delivered for Leeds City Council. The works provided around 180 homes, including accommodation for older residents, as part of the wider Heart of Holbeck investment programme that combines housing renewal with regeneration in an established south Leeds neighbourhood.
The scheme formed part of the council's continued push to deliver new council housing across the city. By renewing housing in Holbeck, it supported the council's ambition to create thriving, mixed communities and to provide a building block for long-term renewal in the area.
Sustainable, affordable homes
The development delivered energy-efficient homes designed to bring lasting social benefit to Holbeck, with insulated external wall systems forming part of the building fabric to improve thermal performance. The programme sat alongside whole-house retrofit works elsewhere in the Heart of Holbeck regeneration, combining new build with the renewal of existing homes.
Together, these works were intended to deliver real social benefit to the Holbeck and wider south Leeds communities, providing good-quality, affordable homes, including homes suited to older people, in a part of the city undergoing significant change and investment.
Delivery in context
Work ran from 2020 to 2022. Construction started on site as part of the Heart of Holbeck programme, and the first tenants moved into the new homes as delivery progressed, with further sub-schemes within the wider regeneration completing in sequence.
The development reflects the council's broader housing strategy, adding energy-efficient, affordable council homes to Holbeck and contributing to the renewal of one of the city's historic neighbourhoods. Holbeck Living forms part of a sustained programme of investment that is helping to renew homes and communities across the south of the city.
